Last year we have published a quick guide to help people with Nvidia-based GPUs to go for the right fork of ccMiner based on their video card capabilities, so it is time we update that guide with the latest Nvidia GPUs. Below is a list of all of the Nvidia-based video cards and their Compute capabilities to help you figure it out depending on what video card you are using. Do note that the list does not include only the consumer Geforce series, but also Quadro and Tesla. You will find the cards that have at least Compute 2.0 capabilities as there is no way to currently make use of an older GPU than a one capable of supporting Compute 2.0 for mining with ccMiner. Furthermore you need to use a special build of ccMiner that comes with support for Compute 2.0 and 2.1 cards as the latest official builds only support Compute 3.0 or newer GPUs (not all of the more recent algorithms are supported). Below is the list of cards and their Compute capabilities you can find links for the respective versions of ccMiner to use…

ccminer-lyra-edition-djm

We have compiled a Windows binary for the new ccMiner Lyra2RE fork by djm34 (source) that offers improved performance for the Lyra2RE algorithm for GPU mining on Nvidia-based video cards. Our Windows binary is compiled with VS2013 and CUDA 6.5 and supports Compute 3.5, 5.0 and 5.2 GPUs, so you can download and try it from the link below if you have compatible hardware. We are seeing a significant improvement from the previous hashrates that were available in ccMiner. For example a non-overclocked GeForce GTX 980 has jumped from around 1325 KHS to about 2126 KHS with this new release, while with a GTX 750 Ti you can get a hashrate slightly lower compared to what was previously available on the GTX 980. A GeForce GTX 980 Ti card has jumped from about 2024 KHS to 2747 KHS, again non-overclocked results as with some OC and higher intensity you can get some extra performance.

Time for a new Windows binary release compiled from the latest Git source code of the ccMiner 1.5.54-git SP-MOD fork of the Nvidia GPU miner optimized for the latest Maxwell-based video cards by SP (source). The new updates are mostly focused around the improved djm34 Lyra2RE performance code that was made available, so his work is integrated and further small increase in performance is also achieved with additional optimizations. We are seeing around 150 KHS performance increase with the default settings on the GTX 980 and GTX 980 Ti GPUs over the djm34 release, on slower GPUs the performance increase is lower. Do note that this 54 release may have some issue with local wallet mining as it appears we are having some trouble with that, so if you do experience a problem you should go back to the 53 release that works properly at least for us. The SP-MOD fork of ccMiner is designed for Nvidia Maxwell GPUs such as the already available GTX 750, 750 Ti as well as the newer GTX 960, GTX 970, GTX 980 and GTX 980 Ti and GTX Titan X. Here comes a new Windows binary release compiled from the latest Git source code of the ccMiner 1.5.55-git SP-MOD fork of the Nvidia GPU miner optimized for the latest Maxwell-based video cards by SP (source). The new version includes fixes for numerous algorithms such as WhirlpoolX, Neoscrypt,Lyra2RE and Qubit and provides additional performance increase for Quark. Furthermore it can also be compiled with the latest CUDA 7.5, however it seems that CUDA 6.5 is still giving the best performance, so we have used it for this. Do note that the 55 release may have some issue with local wallet mining, just like release 54 as it appears we are having some trouble with that, so if you do experience a problem you should go back to the 53 release that seems to work fine. The SP-MOD fork of ccMiner is designed for Nvidia Maxwell GPUs such as the already available GTX 750, 750 Ti as well as the newer GTX 960, GTX 970, GTX 980 and GTX 980 Ti and GTX Titan X. Yet another new Windows binary release compiled from the latest Git source code of the ccMiner 1.5.60-git SP-MOD fork of the Nvidia GPU miner optimized for the latest Maxwell-based video cards by SP (source). It seems SP has been very active lately with a lot of improvements in performance and some new features getting introduced in his fork of ccMiner. The latest update focuses on the addition of support for the new Lyra2REv2 algorithm from DJM34’s fork as well as some fixes. Do note that only VertCoin (VTC) is currently using the new v2 of the Lyra2RE algorithm and not all of the mining pools have yet updated for the hard fork. The performance that the new Lyra2REv2 has is totally different than the original Lyra2RE algorithm, so instead of about 3000 KHS on the old one we are no up to about 14000 KHS reported by the miner on a GTX 980 Ti GPU (p2pool however only reports about half that hashrate). Do note that the SP-MOD fork of ccMiner is designed for Nvidia Maxwell GPUs such as the already available GTX 750, 750 Ti as well as the newer GTX 960, GTX 970, GTX 980 and GTX 980 Ti and GTX Titan X. A new update in the form of a new Windows binary release compiled from the latest Git source code of the ccMiner 1.5.63-git SP-MOD fork of the Nvidia GPU miner optimized for the latest Maxwell-based video cards by SP (source). The latest version includes more fixes and some slight hashrate improvements. Do note that the SP-MOD fork of ccMiner is designed for Nvidia Maxwell GPUs such as the already available GTX 750, 750 Ti as well as the newer GTX 960, GTX 970, GTX 980 and GTX 980 Ti and GTX Titan X. The Windows binary release we have made available here is with support for Compute 5.0 and Compute 5.2 GPUs or with other words only for Maxwell-based cards compiled with CUDA 6.5 and VS2013.

Update: We have compiled and updated the binary with the latest code changes that include significant increase in performance for BlakeCoin – up to about 70% increase in the hashrate. As an example with GTX 980 Ti the older ccMiner could get up about 2.033 GHS and with the updated version the performance we get now form the same GPU is 3.531 GHS, a GTX 950 GPU is up from about 677 MHS to 1.17 GHS, so the increase is very significant. Due to the high difficulty that BlakeCoin (BLC) has because of it being merge mined with multiple other coins this performance increase might actually make it interesting to actually mine it with Nvidia GPUs.
